First Friday Heroes Recognized by Piedmont Walton for Life-Saving Response of Walton County Man

Monroe, Ga. (October 31, 2025) – A group of dedicated first responders from multiple Walton County agencies are being recognized as Piedmont Walton Hospital First Friday Heroes for their coordinated, life-saving actions that helped revive a man found unresponsive at his residence in July 2025.

These First Friday Heroes are:

  • Firefighter Alex Sims, Walton County Fire Rescue, Station 7
  • Firefighter Aubrey Boss, Walton County Fire Rescue, Station 7
  • Captain Brunson Gunter, Walton County Fire Rescue, District 3
  • Deputy Dale Moss, Walton County Sheriff’s Office
  • Paramedic Britt Sartain, Walton County EMS, Med 5
  • EMT Jimmy Jett, Walton County EMS, Med 5
  • EMS Supervisor Josh Mobley, Walton County EMS, EMS 1
 

The group was nominated by Deputy Fire Chief Craig League of Walton County Fire Rescue for their exemplary teamwork and commitment to saving lives.

On this particular morning, emergency units from Walton County Fire Rescue Engine 7 and District 3, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, and Walton County EMS were dispatched to a residence where a male victim was found unconscious and unresponsive. Deputy Moss and the Engine 7 crew arrived simultaneously and immediately began life-saving measures. Deputy Moss initiated CPR, and the Engine 7 crew deployed an AED to deliver a defibrillation shock.

Shortly after, additional first responders and continued both Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) protocols. The patient was transported by EMS to the Piedmont Athens Regional Emergency Department, where he regained consciousness.

Thanks to the rapid, seamless collaboration of these first responders, the patient not only survived but was discharged home from the hospital just a few weeks later.

“This was a true team effort,” said Piedmont Walton CEO Blake Watts. “Every responder played a critical role in achieving an outstanding outcome. Their dedication and professionalism exemplify the very best of emergency services and our community’s first responders.”

The First Friday Hero recognition celebrates the courage, skill, and compassion of those who go above and beyond in the line of duty.

“Piedmont Walton is proud to honor these heroes for their extraordinary service,” Watts said.
