Atlanta (Oct. 13, 2025) – Piedmont has named Mike Angelakos, DrPH, who brings more than 30 years of experience in information technology, including 28 years in healthcare IT, as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO). The appointment was effective Oct. 13.
Angelakos most recently served as the CIO at Geisinger, a system of 10 hospitals that serves 1.2 million people in urban and rural communities across central and northeastern Pennsylvania. Prior to Geisinger, Angelakos spent 17 years at Trinity Health, a 92-hospital national health system, where he held positions such as Chief Technology Officer, Vice President of Service Optimization, Vice President of Technology Operations, and Regional CIO.
“We are excited to welcome Mike with his deep expertise in IT governance, service optimization and program development,” Piedmont Healthcare President and CEO Kevin Brown said. “Quality, Safety and Service is at the heart of everything our organization does and our Information Services Department, in large part through our Electronic Medical Record, plays a critical role in enabling our high-quality, patient-centered care.”
At Geisinger, Angelakos led the strategic direction of enterprise information technology and information security. He drove the organization’s digital transformation to ensure that its IT systems were agile, reliable, and aligned with Geisinger’s broader strategic goals. His leadership included spearheading modernization efforts such as the cloud computing initiative and advancing the organization’s AI strategy to enhance clinical and operational outcomes.
Angelakos also oversaw Geisinger’s ISS Solutions, a national healthcare technology management firm that delivers comprehensive medical equipment and IT services to external healthcare organizations.
“I am excited to start the next chapter in my career at Piedmont, a national destination for care, where I can help the organization continue to grow and meet the technology and patient-care challenges of the future,” Angelakos said. “My leadership style is deeply rooted in building strong relationships. Strong relationships allow you to build and lead resilient, high-performing teams adept at navigating complex challenges.”
Angelakos holds a Doctor of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, a Masters in Business Administration from Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Barry University. He and his wife, Eleni, have four children.
Angelakos succeeds Geoff Brown, who retired after more than a decade of distinguished service at Piedmont. Brown presided over several major Electronic Medical Record integrations seamlessly and was named Georgia CIO of the Year in the 2020 healthcare category of the ORBIE Awards.
