Macon, Ga. (August 12, 2025) – Knowing your numbers—like blood pressure and blood sugar—is one of the most important steps in preventing and managing chronic conditions.
When community members are aware of these key health indicators, they can take action early, make informed decisions and avoid more serious complications down the road. That’s why increasing early detection of chronic conditions is one of Piedmont Macon’s priorities in its latest Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA).
In partnership with Burdell-Hunt Elementary and United Way of Central Georgia, Piedmont Macon brought that priority to life at the Burdell-Hunt Open House Health Fair, recently welcoming more than 200 families for an afternoon focused on healthier living. The Piedmont Macon team provided on-site diabetes risk assessments and blood pressure checks for parents attending with their children—quick, simple screenings that can identify potential concerns before symptoms appear.
Piedmont Macon also shared information about diabetes, heart health, nutrition and women’s services, giving families the tools to take control of their well-being.
The event offered plenty of hands-on fun too, from a student-friendly germ hand-washing challenge to free first aid kits and a “healthcare hero” dress-up station for kids. Piedmont Macon residents were also on-site to complete sports physicals for Northeast High School athletes, ensuring they could start the school year ready to compete safely.
“We know everyone is busy, so it’s important to meet people where they are,” said Amanda Greechan, Community Relations manager for Piedmont Macon. “This event gave families a helpful and easy health assessment in a place they were already planning to be. That made it more convenient to take that important first step toward better health.”
By helping families know their numbers and understand their health, Piedmont Macon is building a stronger, healthier community.
