Monroe, Ga. (August 4, 2025) – Piedmont Walton Hospital’s Auxiliary is proud to announce that Sarah Wellborn has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Sara D. Hanes Scholarship. Wellborn was chosen from a competitive pool of applicants to receive the $1,000 scholarship.

Wellborn is a student in the Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at Athens Technical College where she has maintained a 4.0 GPA while also working full-time. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and was named to the All-Georgia Academic Team. She is expected to graduate in May 2026.

Wellborn is the third recipient of the Sara D. Hanes Scholarship which was created in 2023 to support local students studying in the medical field. It honors Sara D. Hanes, who founded the Piedmont Walton Auxiliary in 1970.
