Piedmont Cartersville Nurse Aids Victims After Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-75

Cartersville, Ga. (May 28, 2025) – A devastating multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 turned into a scene of heroism when Emilee McArthur, a nurse en route to work at Piedmont Cartersville, sprang into action to assist victims following a catastrophic collision involving a semi-truck.

The incident occurred during the morning commute as McArthur was traveling southbound on I-75. According to eyewitness accounts, a semi-truck traveling northbound veered into an adjacent lane, clipping a car before crossing the median into oncoming traffic. McArthur, witnessing the unfolding chaos, swerved her vehicle into a ditch to avoid a direct collision and immediately called 911 Emergency Services.

The semi-truck collided head-on with a pickup truck. The passenger of the pickup managed to escape, but the driver sustained critical injuries as the vehicle erupted into flames. The semi-truck continued to strike additional vehicles, resulting in a tragic chain reaction.

Despite the danger, McArthur exited her vehicle and rushed to help. She first assisted the female passenger who had jumped from the pickup, then helped a male victim out of another vehicle, laying him on mats from a nearby semi-truck to provide comfort. She continued to check other vehicles for survivors, but tragically, three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

As the first medical professional on site, McArthur was asked by state patrol officers to assist in documenting the scene. She remained calm and composed throughout the ordeal, staying on site for several hours before being released to report to her shift at the hospital.

Remarkably, McArthur continued her duties at the Piedmont Cartersville Emergency Department, which was overwhelmed with critical cases including patients routed from the crash site. In contrast, another nurse who stopped to help but lacked emergency training was so shaken by the experience that she was unable to complete her shift.

Heather Clement, Director of Emergency Services at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center, praised McArthur’s actions: “Emilee exemplifies what it means to be a nurse. Her courage, quick thinking, and unwavering commitment to helping others—even in the face of tragedy—are nothing short of extraordinary. We are incredibly proud to have her on our team.”

At Piedmont, we believe in making a positive difference in every life we touch. Emilee’s actions are a powerful reminder of the compassion, resilience, and excellence that define our caregivers. Her selfless response in a moment of crisis reflects the very heart of our mission: to have a lasting impact on the health and well-being of our communities.

As we continue to support those affected by this tragic accident, we also celebrate everyday heroes like Emilee, who live out our values with courage and compassion.
