Monroe, Ga. (May 16, 2025) – In early May, National Trauma Awareness Month, Piedmont Walton Hospital held two Stop the Bleed training sessions, aimed at empowering both hospital staff and community members with life-saving emergency response skills.
Led by members of the Piedmont Walton trauma team, the Regional 10 coordinator of the Regional Trauma Advisory Council, and Walton EMS, the sessions offered hands-on instruction in bleeding control techniques, including how to apply pressure, pack wounds, and use tourniquets—critical skills that can save lives in the event of traumatic injuries.
“Knowing how to stop severe bleeding can be the difference between life and death,” said Garrett Polston, manager of the trauma program at Piedmont Walton Hospital. “We’re proud to offer this training to our community. Stop the Bleed training teaches important techniques an individual can use to help themselves or others.”
The trauma team will provide this vital training to educators and staff at schools in Social Circle this summer, ensuring that teachers and staff are equipped with both the knowledge and tools to respond to emergencies.
Thanks to funding from the Regional Trauma Advisory Council, Stop the Bleed kits are now available in 100 percent of Walton County schools, further enhancing school safety and emergency readiness.
