Athens, Ga. (May 5, 2025) – Piedmont Athens Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic proudly announces the successful completion of its annual sports physicals day, held at the primary clinic location at the Oconee Health Campus. This year, the event saw over 625 student athletes from various Athens-area high schools receiving their mandatory sports physicals, ensuring they are fit and ready for the upcoming athletic seasons.

The annual event, a cornerstone of Piedmont Athens Regional's commitment to community health and wellness, was supported by dedicated Piedmont staff members who volunteered their time and expertise. These volunteers included physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and administrative personnel, all working together to provide a hassle-free experience for the athletes.

"We are thrilled to have had another strong turnout for our sports physicals day," said Katie Terrell, MS, LAT, ATC, EMT-B, an athletic trainer and Piedmont Athens Regional’s outreach coordinator for the hospital’s sports medicine program. "Our team is incredibly passionate about supporting young athletes and ensuring they have access to the necessary health services to perform at their best. This event demonstrates our commitment to the community and the future of youth sports."

The sports physicals day is designed to meet the requirements set by the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), which mandates that all student athletes undergo a physical examination before participating in school sports. The event helps streamline the process, making it easier for students and their families to comply with these regulations.

During the day, in addition to the physical examinations, students received tips on injury prevention, nutrition, and overall wellness.

Piedmont Athens Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine offers comprehensive care in sports medicine, on-site imaging and diagnostics, orthopedic services and surgery, rehabilitation, as well as athletic training services for 16 local high schools.
