Piedmont Mountainside Opens New Intensive Care Unit

Jasper, Ga. (May 14, 2024) — Piedmont Mountainside Hospital officially opened its new intensive care unit on May 7. A special ribbon cutting and open house event was held on May 1 to celebrate the addition of 16 inpatient beds.

Piedmont Mountainside President & CEO Denise Ray, leadership, physicians, staff, volunteers and board members, along with Dr. Patrick Battey, CEO, Piedmont Atlanta, were present. Also in attendance were local elected officials and key community leaders, including Jasper Mayor Kirk Raffield and Pickens County Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Amberle Godfrey.

“Piedmont Mountainside Hospital has been recognized as one of the top hospitals in the state through several measures, including quality, first and foremost. As a nonprofit, we exist to serve the surrounding communities. This expansion enables us to better serve the needs of our community,” said Denise Ray. “The new unit expands our capacity for intensive care patients as well as medical surgical patients. We are thrilled to now have the additional capacity to care for our patients.”

The $13.6 million, 11,000 sq. ft. bed expansion project began in October, 2023 and increases Piedmont Mountainside’s total number of licensed beds to 76.
