Diagnosing cancer can be tricky - there's no one test or scan that can tell a patient if they have cancer. Our cancer specialists at Piedmont evaluate patients using a range of tools, beginning with a review of medical history and a thorough physical exam. From there, a number of diagnostic tests and scans could confirm the presence of cancer, or eliminate other potential issues that might look like cancer symptoms the disease. Tests may also be used to determine the stage a cancer is in, a classification of how far the cancer has spread, so the right treatment can begin.
