Former Principal Finds Joy in Volunteer Work

Diane Teer

Diane Teer spent her career as an educator -- first as a teacher, then assistant principal and finally principal. Now, Teer serves as Membership Chair for the Piedmont Newnan Hospital Auxiliary.

Teer started her work as a hospital volunteer five years ago, first working in the pool room and then as a cart driver at the old hospital before moving to the information desk where she's worked since the opening of our new hospital.

"I'm always really humbled when I leave here, when I see the good work of what everybody does," she said. "It's just a pleasure. It's something that I truly enjoy."

Teer started her teaching career in Massachusetts. When she moved to Atlanta in 1970, she worked as a teacher at what was then Fayette County Junior High. She then transferred to J.C. Booth Middle School before moving to Hood Avenue Primary as assistant principal and then principal. She retired in 2006.

It wasn't long after her retirement that Teer joined the Piedmont Newnan Auxiliary.

"I just really enjoy being of service to others and I like to stay busy. There's a lot of joy in it," Teer explained.

Aside from volunteering at PNH, Teer is a Master Gardener and part of the Master Gardener Extension Volunteer at the UGA Cooperative Extension Service.
