The 22 hospitals of Piedmont Healthcare belong to the communities we serve. Our promise is to make a positive difference in every life we touch, and this mission is evidenced within our community benefit programs. Piedmont doesn't want to just make people healthier; we want to keep people healthy.

Piedmont recently studied the region’s community health needs for its Community Health Needs Assessment in our commitment as a not-for-profit health system. A CHNA is a measurement of the relative health or well-being of a given community. It's both the activity and the end-product of identifying and prioritizing unmet community health needs, which is done by:
- Gathering and analyzing data;
- Soliciting the feedback of the community and key stakeholders, including public health; and,
- Evaluating Piedmont’s past work and future opportunities.
Through this assessment, Piedmont is better informed to understand local health challenges, identify health trends in our communities, determine gaps in the current health delivery system and craft a plan to address those gaps and the identified health needs. The Piedmont CHNA will serve as a foundation for developing our community benefit strategies and further strengthening our community work.
This is the fourth Piedmont CHNA, with the others having been conducted in 2013, 2016 and 2019. The current Piedmont CHNA will serve as a foundation for developing our community benefit strategies and further strengthening our community work.

In Fiscal Year 2022, Piedmont's hospitals provided an estimated $300 million in community benefits. This included:
- $158 million in financial assistance for low-income patients
- $24 million in losses incurred from Medicaid
- $86 million in bad debt
- $26 million loss incurred from other government programs that subsidize care for low-income patients
- $31 million for other community benefits, including health profession education and partnerships with 27 charitable clinics within our communities
Because our hospitals are nonprofits, we are required by law to file annually IRS Form 990, in which we report our community benefit activities within a part of that form titled Schedule H. Please see below for Fiscal Year 2021 reports.
