Monroe, Ga. (July 29, 2025) – Piedmont Walton Hospital, led by the efforts of its emergency room physicians, is proud to announce a new partnership with the recently opened Walton County YMCA, reinforcing its commitment to community health and safety through meaningful local collaboration.
The partnership kicks off with the introduction of the YMCA’s Safety Around Water program, a national initiative that helps children build confidence and learn essential water safety skills. The program is just one example of how Piedmont Walton is investing in wellness initiatives beyond hospital walls.
“This partnership is about more than just teaching kids how to swim—it’s about saving lives,” said Blake Watts, CEO of Piedmont Walton Hospital. “By working with the YMCA, we’re ensuring that families in our community have access to the tools and knowledge they need to stay safe around water. It’s a powerful example of what can happen when healthcare and community organizations come together.”
As part of this initiative, Susie Payne, director of Case Management at Piedmont Walton, will transition into a new role as a community nurse educator based at the Walton County YMCA beginning in August. There, she will serve as a link between Piedmont and the community, supporting health education programs and outreach efforts.
“We are very excited to work with Susie and other members of the Piedmont Walton team to offer programs that benefit the health and wellbeing of YMCA members,” said Meredith Green, executive branch director for the Walton County YMCA. “The Safety Around Water program is just the beginning—we see this as a long-term collaboration that will bring lasting benefits to families across Walton County.”
The collaboration with the YMCA is the latest effort by Piedmont Walton to promote wellness, safety, and education across Walton County. From school partnerships to local health fairs and now water safety education, the hospital continues to expand its role as a trusted community partner.
