Fayetteville, Ga. (July 28, 2025) – Piedmont Fayette Hospital has received approval from the Piedmont Healthcare Board of Directors on a $275 million expansion project that will transform the hospital’s campus and help care for the citizens of a rapidly growing community. The project represents the Piedmont system’s largest capital investment since the Marcus Tower on the campus of Piedmont Atlanta, the system’s founding hospital.
The project will add a new patient tower with additional space shelled out for potential expansion. Piedmont Fayette opened in 1997 with 54 beds. Today, it has 310 beds, more than 2,300 employees, performs over 13,000 surgeries each year, and has 130,000 outpatient encounters annually.
The renovation and expansion project will extend to other areas of the hospital, including surgical services (four new operating rooms and space for four more), kitchen, lab, pharmacy, and more. The plan includes building a new Central Utility Plant that will be sized to serve the entire expanded campus. The loading dock will also be expanded and renovated.
The new construction will consist of approximately 218,250 square feet with an additional 31,304 square feet of existing space being renovated.
“Piedmont Fayette has been fortunate to grow alongside Fayette County since we opened our doors in 1997,” said Steve Porter, CEO of Piedmont Fayette. “The scale of this project reflects how the hospital has grown to serve not just Fayette, but patients of counties to our north and south. This expansion is necessary to care for the needs of the greater community and to continue to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.”
Formerly known as Fayette Community Hospital, Piedmont Fayette has evolved over the years into more of a regional medical center, due, in part, to a rapidly growing area around the campus and the hospital building a reputation for stellar care.
“We opened the East Tower (our last expansion) towards the end of 2017,” said Porter. “Since then, we have focused on bringing new providers and technology to the hospital to perform more complex cases. We believe this expansion is the next logical step for Piedmont Fayette and the region.”
Construction is expected to start in early 2026 and be completed within three years.
