Piedmont Macon to Host 'Cancer Survivor Celebration' June 4

Macon, Ga. (May 30, 2025) – June is National Cancer Survivors Month, and Piedmont Macon is proud to recognize the strength, resilience and courage of cancer survivors in Middle Georgia. During the month, we celebrate their journeys, honor their stories and reaffirm our commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality care to all those affected by cancer.

Cancer survivorship is a testament to perseverance, hope and the advances in medical care that make survivorship possible. Piedmont Macon understands that survivorship is not just about living after cancer; it’s also about thriving. Piedmont Macon is committed to standing with our patients and their families every step of the way, from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.

“We are constantly inspired by the bravery and determination of our cancer survivors,” said Kimberly Lewis, manager of Oncology Services at Piedmont Macon. “This month is about honoring their stories and reminding everyone that no one faces cancer alone.”

To mark the month, Piedmont Macon is hosting various events to celebrate survivors and connect with the community.

  • Cancer survivors will be recognized with purple ribbons on the Cancer Survivor Tree of Hope. Patients, their families and employees can write the name of a cancer survivor – or in memory of someone who was lost to cancer – on a ribbon, which will be tied to a tree in front of Building C.
  • A Cancer Survivor Celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4 at 1 p.m. in the Cancer Center Classroom, 330 Hospital Drive, Building C, Suite 120. This is a special Stronger Together Support Group celebration for cancer survivors that will include a drum circle experience with Dr. Gloria Cisse and Rodney Mason from The Southern Center for Choice Theory in Macon.
  • A “Healthy Eating and Cancer Treatment” class is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 12 in the Cancer Center. Presented by a registered dietitian from the hospital, the class includes information on maintaining a healthy weight, following a healthy diet and staying physically active. A live food preparation and tasting will follow the presentation.

These events are open to the public, and all cancer survivors, their loved ones, caregivers and community members are invited to attend. For more information and to RSVP for any of the Cancer Survivors Month events, please call 478-765-4805.
