Piedmont Columbus Regional Residency Programs Match with New Residents

Columbus, Ga. (March 19, 2024)— Piedmont Columbus Regional will add 12 doctors and eight pharmacists to its roster this summer.

The new Family Medicine residents who will join Piedmont Columbus Regional on July 1 are:

  • Labib Assoboh, M.D., Jacksonville, Fla.
  • Anum Babar, M.D., Acworth, Ga. 
  • Sarah Bakr, M.D., Locust Grove, Ga. 
  • Amit Bhalla, M.D., Lake Worth, Fla.
  • Uzoma Chidolue, M.D., Powder Springs, Ga. 
  • Hemal Desai, M.D., Rocky Mount, N.C.
  • Ana George, M.D., Decatur, Ga. 
  • Naglaa Ghobriel, M.D., Hackensack, N.J.
  • Tyanna Jones-Gray, M.D., Waldorf, Md.
  • Karan Kapoor, M.D., Danville, Calif.
  • Denis Malkov, D.O., West Hartford, Conn.
  • Amaka Ugoh, M.D., Tyrone, Ga. 

“We are thrilled these new residents will be coming to Columbus and continue their medical training at Piedmont,” said John Bucholtz, D.O., Director of Medical Education and Family Medicine Residency Program. “We are pleased to provide the foundation for a successful career as a practicing physician while continuing to fulfill our mission to care for the community.”

Family Medicine residents enjoy the support of all major medical specialties, while providing patient care of the highest skill and sophistication. Core clinical rotations include Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Intensive Care experiences, Internal Medicine, Neonatology, Obstetrics/Gynecology and Pediatrics.

With those onboarding this summer, Piedmont Columbus Regional will employ 36 residents. When established in 1972, the Family Medicine Residency Program at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown became the first of its kind in Georgia and one of the first in the Southeastern United States. More than 1,000 family physicians have graduated from the nationally recognized program.

The new Pharmacy residents who will join Piedmont Columbus Regional in June are:

  • Khomal Bhut, PharmD, PCOM
  • Graylon Cross-Pen, PharmD, Auburn University
  • Emily Davis, PharmD, UGA
  • Brooke Landry, PharmD, UGA
  • Janna Lewis, PharmD, Auburn University
  • Alexa McDaniel, PharmD, UGA
  • Megha Patel, PharmD, UGA
  • Tyler Tolbert, PharmD, UGA

“Residents will complete core rotations in the areas of Ambulatory Care, Central Distribution, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Oncology, PEDS/Neonatology, Practice Management and Transitional Care Clinic,” said Jamie Crossman, PharmD, PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director.

Through patient care, practice management, research and other various pharmaceutical practice training segments, the residency instills a philosophy of practice that embraces the concept that pharmacists must be responsible and accountable for optimum drug therapy outcomes.
