Piedmont Columbus Regional Youth Volunteer Program Returns

Columbus, Ga. (June 2, 2023)— The Piedmont Columbus Regional Auxiliary is excited to welcome our youth volunteers back after a two-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic!

The Auxiliary has sponsored the Youth Volunteer Program for 57 years and the program’s goal is to attract and retain volunteers, ages 14-18, who are passionately pursuing careers in healthcare.

Area students were encouraged to apply and return to volunteering in the healthcare setting. We received 88 applications from students who were recommended by either their teacher or guidance counselor. Of those, 39 made it to the interview process, where 37 were ultimately selected. Each applicant submitted a 200-word essay describing why they are interested in healthcare and participated in one-on-one interviews. All participating students have the requisite health record verifications.

The youth volunteers will be serving in 25 departments across the Midtown and Northside campuses as well as the John B. Amos Cancer Center. They will be serving in departments such as transport, courier, patient experience, clerical and dietary— just to name a few.

The 2023 Youth Volunteer program will launch June 5 and run through June 23— providing students with meaningful experiences that will help cement their passion for a future career in healthcare. The hours each day are 9 a.m. -3 p.m., each student will accrue up to 36 hours of volunteer time.

The Auxiliary began the Youth Volunteer Program in 1964 and has provided thousands of students the opportunity to experience healthcare firsthand. Many past youth volunteer participants work at Piedmont Columbus Regional today.
