Men Join Piedmont Henry in the Fight Against Cancer

Stockbridge, Ga. (Oct. 14, 2019) - As part of its commitment to the fight against breast cancer, Piedmont Henry Hospital is enlisting the help of a dozen men in the community to help spread awareness about breast cancer, the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S.

Now in its’ 11th year at Piedmont Henry, the Real Men Wear Pink campaign is designed to increase the number of women who take preventative action in the fight against the disease. The men will take part in community events throughout the month of October in Henry County, all while leading by example by asking the women in their lives to get screened for breast cancer.

“I believe the message of this program resonates throughout the community as people see leaders from Henry County promote the importance of early detection to prevent breast cancer,” said Piedmont Henry CEO Deborah Armstrong. “Through the campaign, the men can also share what a valuable resource the comprehensive cancer care we provide is to patients and their families.”

The men taking part in the 2019 Real Men Wear Pink Campaign for Piedmont Henry are:

  • Gerard Brayboy – PVH Corp.
  • Rusty Strawn – Strawn & Co. Insurance
  • El-Mahdi Holly – Georgia House of Representatives, District 111
  • Tony Moye – Founder of Moye’s Pharmacy
  • Bruce Holmes, Henry County Commissioner, District 5
  • Gary Lee – Academy Properties
  • Dean McAvoy – Georgia Power Company
  • J.D. Hardin – Henry County Schools
  • George Patterson – Henry County Government
  • Kevin Foskey – Nestle’ USA
  • Scott Harrison – Henry County Water Authority
  • Derek Haeney - ALPLA

“I’m wearing pink for Breast Cancer Awareness for my mom and my sister-in-law who both lost their battle with cancer earlier this year,” said Strawn. “The battle against cancer is of high importance to me and my family. Wearing pink is a reminder of their fight! It’s important to me that we continue fighting to improve outcomes and the treatment experience itself.”
