Comprehensive Breast Health Program in Athens
Piedmont Athens Regional’s Breast Health Center is the only nationally accredited breast center in northeast Georgia. It uses the most modern screening technology and focuses on early detection. The Breast Health Center provides more than 12,600 mammograms annually at locations on Piedmont Athens Regional's main campus (Athens-Clarke County), Oconee Health Campus (Oconee County) and Royston Health Campus (Franklin County).
Prevention and Early Detection
Piedmont Athens Regional’s Breast Health Center offers screening and diagnostic mammography, ultrasounds, clinical breast exams and image-guided biopsies. It is accredited by the American College of Surgeons' National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and is recognized as an American College of Radiology’s Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (ACR BICOE). The oncology program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Piedmont Athens High-Risk Breast Clinic
One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Knowing if you are at a higher risk for breast cancer can help you proactively manage your health.
If you are at an increased risk of developing breast cancer, you may benefit from more frequent breast cancer screenings in addition to your annual mammogram. Early detection can improve survival rates by diagnosing cancers when they are most treatable.

Diagnosis
For every patient diagnosed with breast cancer, Piedmont Athens Regional's Breast Health Center offers a weekly multidisciplinary case review to ensure expert coordinated care. In addition, patients are provided support services dedicated to helping them understand a breast cancer diagnosis and the next steps, including cancer treatment options. Three Registered Nurse Navigators are available to assist patients with the physical, psychological and social needs that come with a cancer diagnosis.

At Piedmont Athens Regional, we treat the patient – not just the disease. Because cancer treatment involves more than medical care, the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support empowers our patients and their families affected by cancer throughout their journey with services and programs that aim to help with their physical, mental and spiritual health. The Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support has been a staple of the Athens community for years, offering a full range of support to help guide patients and families through one of the most challenging times of their lives.
