Piedmont Henry Hospital Names New Chief Medical Officer

Stockbridge, Ga. (August 19, 2019) – William Watkins, M.D, has been named chief medical officer at Piedmont Henry Hospital, effective Aug. 19.

In this role, Watkins will bring his more than 30 years of experience to provide leadership to the medical staff and oversee quality, clinical performance and service initiatives throughout the hospital.

A board-certified emergency medicine physician, Watkins has been a part of the medical staff at Piedmont Henry for the last 14 years. In addition to his role as medical director of the Emergency Department, he has served as chief quality officer and assistant medical director of the department. Prior to joining Piedmont, Watkins practiced at Southern Regional Medical Center for over 26 years, serving as medical director during the last 16 years of that term. He has also worked at several hospitals covered by his emergency medicine group over the years.

Watkins graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the age of 20. After receiving his medical training at Howard University College of Medicine, he completed his residency at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center and UCLA – Martin Luther King, Jr./Drew Medical Center. He is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a member of the Medical Association of Georgia.
