Psychiatry Residency Program in Macon
Hello! Thank you for your interest in the Psychiatry Residency Program at Piedmont Macon Medical Center (previously known as Coliseum Medical Centers). The residents, faculty, and staff look forward to meeting you and sharing with you all we have to offer! We are a relatively new program focused on developing innovative and practical methods to deliver outstanding psychiatric care to the population of middle Georgia. We also value the importance of educating residents of the need to maintain work/life balance to establish a rewarding and meaningful career.
Our program offers many unique features that you may not find elsewhere including outpatient neurology and inpatient forensic psychiatry. We have a resident developed clinic that focuses on the care of unhoused individuals.
I believe that the most important element of our program is our faculty and residents. From day one our faculty work closely with you as part of a team. Upper level residents are available to teach and guide new residents though the program.
Since the inception of our program, the majority of our graduates have remained in Macon. I believe this demonstrates the warm and welcoming character of the program and our city and I encourage you to learn more about our program!
Sincerely,
Leslie Tomek, MD
Program Director

Program Leadership
Leslie Tomek, MD - Program Director
I have been part of this program since its infancy; I began as associate program director in 2016 and became program director in 2017. I trained at the University of Rochester (home of the biopsychosocial model) and worked at a community mental health clinic for 10 years prior to moving to Macon. I simply love working with residents and enjoy the opportunity to continually learn from our patients. All of our faculty and residents are extremely passionate about psychiatry and have made our program what it is today. Macon, GA is really the perfect place to live and train. Our diverse population ensures that our residents are ready to handle the complexities of psychiatric care when they are done with their training. Macon’s access to the outside year-round, as well as the beach and Atlanta ensures that our residents have a chance to enjoy their time off as well.
Emory Dunn - Program Administrator
Emory Dunn serves as the Psychiatry Residency Program Administrator. He supports the daily operations and long-term goals of the residency program. With a strong background in graduate medical education administration, Emory works closely with faculty, residents, and institutional leadership to ensure smooth program functioning and compliance with ACGME requirements. Dedicated to resident success and wellness, Emory is the first point of contact for trainees, providing tough love, guidance on scheduling, program policies, accreditation standards, and professional development opportunities. He takes pride in fostering an organized, supportive environment where residents can thrive both personally and professionally. He is also part of the leadership team for our annual sleepout and fund raiser with Daybreak. Outside of work, Emory enjoys spending time with his wife watching their boys play football and soccer.
