About Our Conference

Almost 30 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes and another 86 million Americans have prediabetes. There are 1.4 million Americans diagnosed with diabetes every year and approximately one-quarter of the cases of diabetes are undiagnosed. Diabetes is the 7th leading cause of death in the United States. Every five minutes, two people die of diabetes-related causes and 14 adults are newly diagnosed.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, participants will be able to:  

  • Identify current Clinical Practice Recommendations for care of people with diabetes.
  • Assess the non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment options for managing diabetes and pre-diabetes to individualize care.
  • Apply the clinical recommendations for the treatment of obesity.
  • Apply clinical decision-making tools to achieve treatment goals for diabetes and co-morbidities.
  • Employ skills to foster inter-professional team work and team-based, collaborative care.

The fee for this conference is $75 for non-Piedmont affiliated physicians. Piedmont affiliated physicians, staff, and other members of the medical team may attend at no charge.

Piedmont Athens Regional is accredited by the Medical Association of Georgia to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
