Piedmont Bariatric Support Groups
The Piedmont Bariatric Surgery Program offers several FREE support groups throughout each month for both patients preparing for bariatric surgery and for patients who have already had bariatric surgery. The support groups run by trained bariatric psychologists, registered dietitians, nurses, and professional chefs, are designed to help patients identify and cope with different issues related to dietary changes, emotional issues, and body image concerns. Several studies have shown bariatric surgery patients who regularly attend support groups will have greater success with maintaining weight loss long-term after surgery.
Benefits of attending a support group:
- Reduce anxiety of pre-operative patients by hearing first-hand stories from people who had surgery
- Identify with other people who share a similar experience
- Provide a place for long-term veterans to have accountability
- Offer a non-judgmental environment for people need to get back on track after surgery
- Learn new food and nutrition tips to incorporate into your healthy lifestyle
We welcome you to bring your friends and family, but please do not bring children.
