Atlanta, Ga. (November 6, 2023) – Piedmont Heart Institute congratulates cardiologist, Charles Wilmer, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, on recently being elected as president of the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG).

Founded in 1849, MAG is the leading advocate for physicians in the state. It focuses on legislative, legal and third-party payer issues. MAG has more than 8,700 members, including physicians in every specialty and practice setting. MAG has five standing committees, including Annual Session, Constitution and Bylaws, Finance, the Council on Legislation, and the Judicial Council. It also has two special committees, including Continuing Medical Education and Correctional Medicine.

“It is a great honor to be President of the Medical Association of Georgia, now in its 176th year of age,” Dr. Wilmer said. “Helping doctors take care of their patients is our calling, and I am proud to be a part of the Team!”

Dr. Wilmer joined MAG in 1987 and in addition to serving this past year as president-elect, he previously served as Board Member of the Medical Association of Atlanta and President of MAA in 2017, as well as Board Member of the Medical Association of Georgia, Treasurer of MAG and Delegate to the American Medical Association.

Dr. Wilmer is an interventional cardiologist at Piedmont Heart of Buckhead, specializing in both cardiology and interventional cardiology. He earned his undergraduate degree from Amherst College and his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, and completed his internal medicine internship and residency and a cardiology fellowship at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Wilmer is fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians.
