Macon, Ga. (Nov. 16, 2022) – Piedmont Macon Medical Center and Piedmont Macon North Hospital both received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. This national distinction celebrates the two hospitals’ achievements in protecting hospital patients from preventable harm and errors.
This is the ninth consecutive A that has been awarded to Piedmont Macon and the fifth consecutive A for Macon North.
“We are very excited to have maintained our Leapfrog A grades as our hospitals have transitioned to the Piedmont family with a focus on quality, safety and service,” said Gary Bernstein, M.D., chief medical officer for Piedmont Macon and Macon North. “This is recognition for all the hard work and collaboration that our medical staff and employees exhibit every day.”
Stephen J. Daugherty, CEO of Piedmont Macon and Macon North, said he’s pleased with this fall’s Leapfrog scores and the underlying safety and quality standards the two hospitals value.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization with a 10-year history of assigning letter grades to general hospitals throughout the United States, based on a hospital’s ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Hospital Safety Grade results are based on more than 30 national performance measures and are updated each fall and spring.
