40 Years Later: How One Local Hospital Has Enhanced Healthcare in Henry County

Stockbridge, Ga. (July 16, 2019) -- Piedmont Henry Hospital is proud this month to celebrate four decades of providing excellent care to residents in Henry County and surrounding areas.

Since first opening its doors to the community as Henry General Hospital in July 1979, Piedmont Henry has evolved from a small 104-bed hospital, into a thriving community hospital that is currently licensed for 236 beds. Today, the hospital serves over 90,000 patients in the emergency department in addition to approximately 13,000 inpatient and 60,000 outpatient visitors each year.

“We are proud to have played such a vital role in the history of Henry County and to be a trusted partner in its health and wellbeing for the last 40 years,” said Deborah Armstrong, CEO of Piedmont Henry Hospital. “This is a huge milestone not only for our dedicated hospital staff but also for our patients and families who have entrusted us with their care for the past 40 years.”

As the healthcare needs of the community have grown over the years, Piedmont Henry has remained committed to expanding its services to bring more specialized care close to home, along with maximizing the hospital’s capacity to better serve patients. In the last year, Piedmont Henry has added a new 20-bed observation unit, a transitional care unit, a dedicated obstetric emergency department for expecting mothers and a state-of-the-art interventional radiology suite. Recognizing the need for greater access to timely emergency care due to growing patient volume, Piedmont Henry’s emergency department, one of the busiest in the Piedmont Healthcare system and in the state, has also undergone several renovations and expansions to help improve patient flow and lower patient wait times.

In addition, the hospital has expanded access to more support programs and services for patients with the addition of a 3,000 square-foot wellness facility, which features a Thomas F. Chapman Cancer Wellness Center, a Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center as well as a Diabetes Resource Center.

“Making these investments reflect our commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care and to enhancing our patients’ overall experience,” Armstrong said. “And as a not-for-profit hospital, we are grateful for the ongoing support and generosity of our donors which allows us to continue expand our services and offer numerous programs at no cost to our community.

Piedmont Henry’s efforts to deliver the highest-quality care have not gone unnoticed. As a testament to its commitment to excellence, the hospital has been a recipient of multiple awards and designations for quality and patient safety including the Press Ganey Success Story Award in 2018, the Leapfrog Group’s Top Hospital Award in 2015, and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award since 2015.
