Atlanta, Ga. (June 12, 2019) – Piedmont Healthcare’s Continuing Medical Education Program has been awarded a six-year accreditation with commendation from the Medical Association of Georgia , which serves under the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), placing the health system’s program in the top 25 percent in the United States.

“This is a great achievement for Piedmont,” said Charlie Brown, M.D., chief executive officer (CEO) for Piedmont Physician Enterprise. “Being awarded this accreditation with commendation reflects the tremendous dedication of our team towards quality and safety improvement, providing the highest standards of educational opportunities for the many healthcare providers in our region.”

The ACCME sets and enforces standards in physician continuing education in the United States, serving as the overseeing body for institutions and organizations providing continuing medical education activities.

The accreditation process ensures programs like Piedmont’s Continuing Medical Education Program provides physicians and other providers with relevant, effective, practice-based continuing medical education that supports healthcare quality improvement.

“This accreditation designation shows that Piedmont has implemented best practices in education, engagement, evaluation, and change management and that our program focuses on generating meaningful outcomes,” Dr. Brown said.

Piedmont’s continuing medical education activities include live events, online offerings or materials and other learning opportunities, offering education to physicians, physicians’ assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare providers located in the region. In 2018, the program offered more than 1,100 hours of education, with more than 17,750 participants from throughout the region.
