Corporate Spotlight: Georgia Power invests in local healthcare through Piedmont Athens Regional Foundation

Georgia Power has been a longtime partner of Piedmont Athens Regional.  For years, Georgia Power has sponsored events benefitting the hospital and 2019 is no different as they once again provided a $5,000 partner-level sponsorship.

In addition, Georgia Power Foundation made a major investment in the Graduate Medical Education Program at Piedmont Athens Regional with a $13,000 grant. Piedmont Athens has 45 residents who treat patients through the Community Care Clinic.  The funds will provide faculty development scholarships, teaching technology, research grants/awards, resident scholarships, and Community Care Clinic patient assistance.

“Access to a doctor has become more and more difficult as Georgia’s population has grown. We must train and keep quality physicians here in Georgia; this program does just that,” said Tony Ferguson, region director of Georgia Power.

This support from Georgia Power will assist Piedmont Athens Regional in recruiting top caliber medical residents who will hopefully remain here impacting generations of Georgians by increasing their access to healthcare.
