Piedmont Fayette Hospital and Piedmont Newnan Hospital Host Dessert and Discussion in Recognition of American Heart Month

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (Feb. 09. 2010) – According to the most recent data available from the Georgia Department of Human Resources, an estimated 80 million American adults (one in three) have one or more types of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and in the state, CVD is the leading cause of death, accounting for one-third in 2007.

In recognition of American Heart Month in February, Piedmont Fayette Hospital (PFH) and Piedmont Newnan Hospital (PNH) will host a joint Dessert & Discussion with the Doctors for the community and surrounding area residents on Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center in Peachtree City, Ga.

Community members are invited at 6:30 p.m. for a distinguished physician panel discussion with Piedmont Heart Institute physicians Charles L. Brown, III, M.D., Nimish N. Dhruva, M.D., Charan Kantipudi, M.D. and Bukola M. Olubi, M.D., as they discuss women and heart disease, cardiac electrophysiology, heart disease prevention and other related topics.

Registration begins at 5 p.m. when attendees can also participate in a free heart screening and get to know their important numbers including BMI, blood pressure, target scores and more.

Dr. Charles L. Brown currently serves as chief medical officer for Piedmont Heart Institute. He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, La.  He completed his internship, residency and fellowship in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.  Dr. Brown is board-certified in cardiology, internal medicine and specializes in interventional cardiology.

Dr. Nimish N. Dhruva earned his medical degree with honors from Baroda Medical College in Baroda, India.  He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at The Jacobi Medical Center in New York, N.Y.  He then completed his fellowship in cardiology at Brown University School of Medicine at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, R.I.  Dr. Dhruva is board-certified in cardiology, internal medicine, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and specializes in clinical cardiology and cardiac imaging.

Dr. Charan Kantipudi earned his medical degree from Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India.  He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, N.Y.  He then completed his fellowship in cardiology at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Mich.  In addition, Dr. Kantipudi completed his fellowship in electrophysiology at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Okla.  Dr. Kantipudi is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology and specializes in cardiac electrophysiology.
 
Dr. Bukola M. Olubi earned her medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine in the Netherlands Antilles.  She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Ill., where she also served as chief resident. She completed her fellowship in cardiology at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, where she also served as chief fellow.  Dr. Olubi is board-certified in cardiology, internal medicine and specializes in clinical cardiology with a particular interest in women’s health.
