ATLANTA (April 28, 2009) – Joseph R. Colonna has been appointed vice president of Supply Chain for Piedmont Healthcare, effective April 20, 2009.
Colonna is an experienced supply chain management professional with an extensive background in the planning and administration of activities associated with sourcing, procurement, conversion, and logistics management for healthcare organizations.
“The current economy means that organizations such as Piedmont Healthcare, which are committed to providing quality care, have to work even smarter at maximizing resources,” said Ed Lovern, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Piedmont Healthcare. “Since arriving in July 2008 as interim vice president, Joe has led a comprehensive restructuring of Piedmont’s supply chain area in order to provide greater value, through improved service and efficiency, to all Piedmont entities. He has also overseen Piedmont’s major transition to MedAssets, a group purchasing organization. By accepting the position, Joe allows us to continue our progress towards improving these functions and preserving the resources available for patient care.”
Before joining the Piedmont team, Colonna was a partner with Appleseed Healthcare Resources, a healthcare consulting organization. Prior to that, he was director of Coastal Cooperative of Neptune, New Jersey, a purchasing cooperative serving two health systems of five hospitals and multiple non-acute providers.
Colonna is a board member of the International Society for Healthcare Value Analysis (ISHVA) and serves on the editorial board of Healthcare Purchasing News. He and his wife, Ann, will be relocating to Atlanta.
