When is the best time to come for my pre-testing?

Pre-testing hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Your pre-testing must be completed at least two business days before your surgery date. An appointment will be made with ATA at the same time your surgery is scheduled. If there is a conflict with the appointment, it may be addressed by calling 404-605-3978. The longest wait times for pre-testing are between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and our busiest days are Mondays and Tuesdays.

How long will pre-registration take?

Your interview with a registrar will take 15 to 20 minutes. Once your registration is complete, you will meet with the clinical staff in the Admissions Testing Area (ATA). Your visit with the clinical staff will take 45 minutes to an hour and possibly longer if your surgeon has requested any specific tests. These estimates do not include potential wait times to meet with a registrar or the clinical staff. If patient volumes are high, your total wait time will be longer.

What happens in the Admissions Testing Area?

You will meet with a nurse to collect your medical information to start your record with the hospital. The nurse will obtain medical information from you, perform any tests your surgeon or the anesthesiologist orders, and give you specific instructions for your upcoming surgery. Most patients also meet with a representative of the anesthesia department for screening.

If I've had tests/lab work done, will I need to repeat them?

No, not if your tests were done within the time period established by the anesthesia department. If another healthcare provider did them, you will be asked to sign a release so that the results can be obtained from that provider. If your tests were done at Piedmont, the clinical staff will obtain those results through the hospital's information systems.

What can I do to make my visit go smoothly?

On the day of pre-testing, bring all forms the physician gives you. If you forget them, we will need to call your doctor for copies, and your wait time will be longer.

Will my parking be free on the day I pre-register and pre-test?

No. Complimentary parking is provided on the day of discharge only. A nurse will give you the necessary form to receive complimentary parking that day.

How do I request a private room?

All patient rooms are private.

What time do I report for surgery?

Please contact your surgeon's office for the specific time to report.

Should I bring my co-pay or deductible when I come for pre-testing?

Payment will be accepted on the day of pre-testing. This will enable you to leave your money and valuables at home when you come to the hospital for surgery.
