Person-Centered Caring: A central attribute of nursing is caring. Person-centered caring is the synergistic force that organizes and binds together all of the attributes of the nurse and person in a goal-oriented movement toward health.
Critical Thinking: Nursing has the education to reflect, inquire, and evaluate their logical thought processes and apply these skills in practice.
Research Based: Nursing practice is grounded in research.
Nursing implements sound, research-based innovations in clinical practice to improve care.
Outcome Focusing: Nursing focuses on evaluating the effect of clinical practice and interventions on patient outcomes.
Holistic: Nursing encompasses the unity of the whole person. The wholeness of a person cannot be separated into individual parts, as they are harmonious.
Competent: The professional nurse demonstrates a proficient clinical practice integrating a solid knowledge base with effective technical, organizational, decision making and communication skills.
Collaborating: Nursing is a synergistic practice with the outcome being distinct and better than either the nurse or the person could accomplish alone.
Integrating Care: The professional nurse is the ideal caregiver to integrate the care provided by members of the health care team and to ensure that the highest quality care is being provided.
Nursing leadership is proud of the continuous improvements nursing has contributed to patient care at Piedmont Medical Center. The Piedmont Medical Center Professional Nursing Practice Model was developed to strengthen nursing as a unified group throughout the Medical Center. We have already seen this positively affect the care of patients and everyone is looking forward to our future growth.
National Nurse Week is May 6-12 at which point we take the opportunity to recognize a nurse that has really made a difference at Piedmont.
Who comes to your mind when you think of a nurse that truly practices person-centered caring and serves as a positive role model for professional nursing practice? Nurses, physicians, patients, family members of patients, or Piedmont Medical Center employees can make nominations. The award recipient will be announced at the Robin Ridley Bradley lecture. Feel free to nominate as many nurses you feel deserve this award.
