Hybrid Technique for Aortic Arch Repair

Piedmont’s Chief of Cardiac Surgery Dr. W. Morris Brown III and Marcus Heart Valve Center cardiologist Dr. Randy Martin discuss a complex case of a 37-year-old male with acute Type A aortic dissection, which requires emergency surgery. Several months after the initial repair that saved the patient’s life, the patient developed an unusual complication: his aortic arch continued to grow. Dr. Brown shares the decision-making that led him to select hybrid arch repair - which uses open surgical repair and endovascular techniques with commercially available stent grafts - as the best approach for a successful outcome.
