Ride with Martha

Martha Hall is an inspiration.  At 46 years old, she has already surpassed survival expectations for those with Ehlers Danlos syndrome, a group of disorders that affects the connective tissues that support the skin, bones, blood vessels, and many other organs and tissues.  Martha is thriving, and this month she’ll compete in the Race Across America.

Billed as the world’s toughest cycling race, the course spans 3,089 miles. Martha will begin in Oceanside, CA, climb more than 170,000 feet on her ride through the country, and finish in Annapolis, MD.  When she finishes, she will join the short list of just 319 solo cyclists and 38 women who have completed the race in its 35-year history.

What will it take for Martha to finish the race in just 12 days?  She will ride 20 straight hours, sleeping less than four hours a night.

Piedmont is following along to tell her incredible story, and we hope you’ll join us.  Please show Martha some support!

How to help support Martha:

1. Ride with Martha!

  • Get on a bike and log some miles!  Piedmont Healthcare is trying to log 3,089 miles at the same time she does.
  • Ride your bike anywhere around town, on vacation, or at your own gym.
  • Go to the Piedmont Atlanta Fitness Center for a group spin class or log some miles on one of the stationary bikes. No membership required.  Just sign in at the front desk and say you’re there to “Ride with Martha.”

  • Log your miles.
  • Share the number of miles you biked on social media using #RideWithMartha.  Include a photo of yourself, you and your bike, or your miles on a tracking device.  Use Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.  Piedmont will add your name and the number of miles to the log in the Piedmont Fitness Center.
  • If you are at the Piedmont Fitness Center, look for a big orange poster on the main floor near the spin class room.  Fill in a square for each mile you ride.  Then, sign your name and feel free to leave a note for Martha.
  •

2. Follow her on social media:

You can also follow Piedmont Healthcare’s Facebook page to see periodic updates, pictures and video.  Leave a message for her on one of the posts and someone on her crew will read it to her during the race.  She needs these encouraging messages, so keep them coming!

3. Track Martha’s progress across the country!

Click here June 13-24 to see where she is.  She will have a tracker on so you can follow her progress.
