Ellen Fleming is Piedmont Henry's Promise 360 Champion

Stockbridge, Ga. (October 2, 2020) – Each year, Piedmont Henry Hospital honors the men and women who go above and beyond for patients, visitors, or co-workers at the Promise 360 awards. The nominees often demonstrate outstanding examples of care or kindness or do things that lead to potentially save a patient’s life. For Ellen Fleming, a diabetes educator and Piedmont Henry’s Promise 360 champion for 2020, she did both.

Fleming received two nominations for separate events and was named a monthly champion for the month of February. The first nomination was for assisting a visitor who was searching for her mother’s car on the hospital’s campus. Ellen noticed the visitor searching the parking lot while carrying a suitcase. She put the visitor in her car and drove her around the parking lot until her mother’s car was found. Her second nomination was for following up with a patient to make sure he understood his recent diagnosis for diabetes and working with him and others throughout the hospital to get the patient a less expensive prescription for insulin.

“I’m honored to win this award, but I sincerely believe I was just doing what any staff member at Piedmont Henry would do in the same situations,” said Fleming, who has been at the hospital off and on since 2008. “Our responsibility is to make a positive difference in every life we touch and I try to do that in every encounter.”

In addition to the recognition at the event, Ellen received a plaque and a $1,000 in honor of her efforts. She will represent Piedmont Henry at the Piedmont 360 Awards for the entire Piedmont Healthcare system.

“Ellen is a wonderful example of the champions of patient-centered care that we have at Piedmont Henry,” said Lily Henson, M.D., CEO of Piedmont Henry Hospital. “I believe that all of our staff members feel empowered to do the things that create extraordinary experiences for our patients and visitors. I am proud of Ellen and all of our Promise 360 winners from throughout the year.”

Monthly champions who were recognized at this year’s event were: Lindsey Neal, Kayla Hudson, Nicole Salter, Chantal Wynn, Denise Campbell, Kristi Jones, Ellen Fleming, Kristiana Stewart, Nicole Carter, Karen Morgan-Sesay, and Terrel Jackson. Jackson, a patient nutrition representative, and Hudson, an RN in Piedmont Henry’s ICU, were this year’s runners-up.
