Piedmont Columbus Celebrates Completion of Cancer Center

Piedmont Columbus Regional is proud to announce the completion of the renovation and expansion of the John B. Amos Cancer Center. This project was made possible by community support and philanthropy through the Piedmont Columbus Regional Foundation.

“The past year has been truly transformational in the fight against cancer as we have been completing the expansion and renovation of the John B. Amos Cancer Center,” said Aline Lasseter, Executive Director of the Piedmont Columbus Regional Foundation. “This project will affect the lives of friends and family across the region for generations to come, and philanthropy has played a major role in making it possible.”

The Piedmont John B. Amos Cancer Center is the only oncology center in the region to offer a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary program serving the 21-county service area around Columbus. The demand for cancer services made the decision to expand the capacity for treating and supporting patients an easy one.

In March 2018, the Foundation launched a $15 million capital campaign to help fund the expansion, renovation and investment in technology for the John B. Amos Cancer Center. Chaired by Dan Amos, nephew of Mr. Amos and Wanda Amos, daughter-in-law of Mr. Amos – the campaign has received generous support from individuals and businesses across the Chattahoochee Valley including notable gifts from the Aflac Foundation, TSYS, Bradley Turner Foundation and family members, the Mildred Miller Fort Foundation, The Amos Verson-Diaz Foundation and the Cheves Family.

“It has been my hope that through this campaign we will be able to take the cancer center to the next level. People need access to the next-generation of cancer treatment right here – in Columbus. I know that my Uncle John is looking down from heaven saying, ‘Good job!’” said Dan Amos, CEO of Aflac and co-chair of the Campaign for the John B. Amos Cancer Center.

In December 2018, the Piedmont John B. Amos Cancer Center expansion phase was completed resulted doubling the size of the cancer center. The expansion features an open-concept lobby with a new cumulative Donor Wall, the Cheves Chemotherapy suite featuring 32 semi-private bays and four private rooms, a new expanded pharmacy with retail space, and a newly designed Medical Oncology Suite (named in tribute to Dr. Andrew Pippas) that features 27 exam rooms, physician offices providing greater nursing and physician collaboration.

In August 2019, renovations to the existing building were complete and all staff and departments were located under one roof. The expansion phase of the project allowed much needed space for the Breast Care Center to be relocated in the cancer center from its previous location on Hamilton Road. This consolidated the breast care service line and offers patients comprehensive, convenient access to care.

The renovated space also features Stella’s Boutique, a retail space to purchase wigs, prostheses, surgical camisoles, and many other products. Other services offered in the newly renovated space include the Woodruff Support Services Suite that features art and massage therapy and the June Wright Community Conference Room that will be available to community organizations.

“We are here to bring hope to our community and deliver state of the art cancer care, right here at home,” said Sheree Tolbert, Executive Director of Oncology Services.
